LANSING, Michigan March 3, 2021 – Laborers’ International Union of North America (LIUNA) Michigan will recognize Women in Construction (WIC) Week March 7-13, 2021. The focus of WIC Week is to highlight women as a visible component of the construction industry.
“LIUNA Michigan recognizes many outstanding women and their contributions to the construction industry,” said Michigan Laborers’ District Council Business Manager Geno Alessandrini, Sr. “WIC Week will recognize the advancements of women in the construction industry and increase awareness of viable career choices for women interested in construction.”
LIUNA Michigan plays an active role in many local organizations whose sole purpose is to enhance the success of women in the construction industry, including National Association of Women in Construction (NAWIC), Women in Skilled Trades (WIST), pre-apprenticeship programs for women interested in joining skilled trades, and more.
LIUNA Michigan will also use this week to highlight the success of our union Sister, Linda VanDike, who was awarded the 2021 Michigan Laborers’ Apprentice of the Year award. Linda’s picture will be featured on a digital billboard located on I-69 outside of the Michigan Laborers’ Training and Apprenticeship Institute (MLTAI) in Perry, Michigan.
